Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide (DSIP) is an endogenous nonapeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) distributed across the hypothalamus, limbic system, anterior pituitary, and several peripheral tissues. Research has examined its purported role in modulating delta-wave EEG activity and sleep architecture, as well as its interactions with NMDA receptors, GABAergic signaling, and monoaminergic neurotransmitter systems including serotonin and dopamine. Additional laboratory investigations have probed its neuroendocrine effects, including modulation of corticotropin release, somatotropin secretion, and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation efficiency.
