TESAMORELIN

Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of the full 44-amino acid sequence of human GHRH, modified at its N-terminus with a trans-3-hexenoic acid group to confer resistance to dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV) degradation and extend its functional half-life compared to native GHRH. It is the only GHRH analog to receive FDA approval, currently indicated for the reduction of excess visceral adipose tissue in HIV-infected adults with antiretroviral therapy-associated lipodystrophy, based on randomized controlled trial data demonstrating selective visceral fat reduction. Research beyond the approved indication has examined its effects on truncal muscle composition, hepatic steatosis, cognitive function in aging populations, and as a diagnostic and interventional probe for somatotropic axis studies.
