5-Amino-1MQ is a small molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme that consumes methyl donor capacity and reduces cellular NAD+ availability by converting nicotinamide to 1-methylnicotinamide. Research in rodent models has demonstrated that selective NNMT inhibition by this compound suppresses adipocyte lipogenesis, reduces white adipose tissue accumulation, and elevates intracellular NAD+ without significant effects on food intake or secondary metabolic enzymes. Preclinical investigations have also examined its role in skeletal muscle function, with data suggesting improvements in grip strength and muscle performance in aged models.
