CYANOCOBALAMIN B12

Cyanocobalamin B12 is a synthetic, stable form of cobalamin (vitamin B12), a water-soluble cofactor essential for numerous enzymatic processes including one-carbon metabolism, methylation reactions, and neurological function. Research has examined its role as a cofactor for methionine synthase—catalyzing the remethylation of homocysteine to methionine—and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase, which facilitates conversion of methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA in the mitochondrial matrix. Laboratory investigations have examined cyanocobalamin’s involvement in myelin sheath synthesis and axonal maintenance, as well as its downstream effects on S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) availability and the broader methylation cycle.
